What happens if the source files are lost and the data shards of the repository are damaged? Can the repository be self-healing? (like winrar archives with Solomon encoding recovery records added or par2)
Restic does not use any Solomon encoding. Sometimes corrupted repositories can be recovered but it will often lead to lose of at least some data.
Have more than one backup. 3-2-1 rule is a good start.
