You could use the --no-cache flag in the mean time (or autowipe the cache if the call to restic fails)
I considered not using a cache, but want to keep the load on client PCs as light as possible.
For now I’m just periodically checking the logs, and if I see one is stuck, I wipe it manually. It hasn’t happened THAT much, thankfully. 
FYI, the fix is included in restic 0.9.6
