Backing up Restic itself

Despite many attempts to backup my files to ProtonDrive, I’ve failed because ProtonDrive for Linux is never coming. I also tried usng rclone for ProtonDrive but Proton has started outright blocking RCLONE API access.

So my idea now is to simply, weekly, upload my restic backup folder into ProtonDrive. I have many terrabytes I pay for but unable to use because I am not a windows or a mac user.

For this to work, I would like to know if restic has mutable files within the repository. I mean, several files are okay but what about most? TO the best of my knowledge restic data files are immutable. Is this true?

Perhaps you should consider a different cloud provider. There are dozens and dozens to choose from these days with so many options, including privacy-focused providers.

Files, once uploaded do not change. When changes are made, new versions of the files are uploaded and the obsolete files are then removed.

Thanks so much!

Would the restic repo be considered “broken” if old files still remain in the protonDrive folder?

Abou Protodrive, I fell into the trap and I’ve paid for an year already. They delete all talks about this on their reddit. I did question about blocking RCLONE API but they outright remove those posts on reddit. And the Proton email service downplays the question, mentioning they are not blocking.

If you create a new repository on another provider, they are independent of each other. It doesn’t matter if there is data left from the old repository on another provider.
Is that the question?

No, it is totally fine.
