[Backblaze] Backup via encrypted rclone connection

Hello. First of all, i do not have any special setup - i just made repositories for each home PC. I would like to backup my whole restic folder with all the repositories to Backblaze using Rclone with encrypting it because along restic repositories, i will backup my unencrypted NAS stuff as well and noone would like to have unencrypted files on someone’s drives, right?

I would like to ask if someone have similar setup up and running:

Home PC → Incremental backup to Restic repository → weekly job to sync to backblaze.

In theory it should work. It may take a while to decrypt all of the files but in the end, it should be secure in there, right?

You do not have to encrypt restic repositories again. They are already encrypted.

But it won’t hurt neither if you do.

As for your question - neither restic nor rclone underwent proper security audits. There is one restic quick crypto assessment by somebody who understands this subject - restic cryptography

So it is hard to answer authoritatively:) You have to decide yourself how much you trust these programs authors’ skills in implementing encryption…

Double encryption you want to use definitely will increase your data protection. Both programs crypto would have to be broken to reveal your secrets. It might be a bit of tin foil hat style approach though:)
